Spring Is In the Air!

Grandma is feeling WAY frisky these days!

Her friends watch a lot of television, and in reality so does Grandma, but Grandma has some sort of odd self-judgement thing about enjoying television and always makes excuses about the watching she does do, like watching television should be a chore and that not enjoying it is virtuous. Yeah right! Sensing a hidden desire in Grandma based on comments about various television shows centered around her friends viewing habits (so-and-so loves this show, what's-her-face never misses that show...) I had my feelers out for various programs that Grandma might be interested in, and so, we've been watching Dancing With the Stars every week since it started a month ago.

Grandma ADORES this program and looks forward to it each week. She speculates about the outcome days in advance, and is visibly preoccupied on Mondays when the show airs. She's become an expert on the scoring and has been especially sensitive to whatever romantic, sexual, suggestive tension might be evident between the dancers (real AND imagined!) Last night she couldn't stop talking about how Pamela Anderson "split her AY-ES-ES" (yes she spelled it) on the dance floor. I stifled whatever giggles arose and might have muttered "among other things..." Grandma always appreciates my snarky comments. :)

She's also been driving a lot these days. If you remember, she passed her drivers test in the fall AFTER a botched cataract surgery left her blind in one eye (please see the entry for Thursday December 3, 2009). Well, you'll all be relieved to know that she's improved since then, however, still leaves much to be desired as a driver. The scariest part of riding while Grandma is driving is her seemingly innocent observations as she snails down the street: "OH look at the flowers! All the flowers are out! Such BEAUTIFUL flowers! OH look at the park! All the kids are out! Such good looking, well behaved children! OH look at the cars! All the people are out! All the people are walking!" While she's enjoying looking at her town and her neighbors on occasion it bothers me that she's not looking at the street. Just an observation. It's probably nothing. Still, I don't recommend being a motorist, pedestrian, child in the park, or any sort of flora and/or fauna in our town for that matter, just in case.

Other noteworthy observations include her reaction to a project I'm doing on Lady Gaga, my frequent conversations with my boyfriend and her recent Perm: she thinks the Bad Romance video is hysterically funny, that she wishes it was she instead of I who was in love and on the phone all the time, and that a woman's hair-do is central to how she feels. In short, Grandma feels great. Praise god.
