Grandma was watching Ken Burns' National Parks when I got home tonight. We had a glass of wine and a chat and watched the same one she was watching start over again. It was about the everglades. Grandma has been to all of these places, most of them twice (at least once with each husband), it seems.
I'm really "over" this whole Ken Burns thing, ever since his Gettysburg series, his style is just so DONE anymore... I keep thinking "OH, you're gonna pan this black and white photo and maybe zoom in on one character? Could you throw in some folk music and some local noises that might have been going on in this scene and a new narrator with a slightly folksy yet also detached accent for that character you just zoomed in on? THANK YOU!" There's an app for that, man! Do something NEW!!!! I'm not a lot of fun to watch TV with, FYI.
Anyway, before I got the chance to be a total fun-sucker Grandma says "I wish your grandfather was here to watch this" before she downs her glass of chardonnay, ice cubes clinking ever so slightly.
I got so misty I actually had to pay attention to the show. Thanks Grandma.
